The Wildrose party held their Annual General Meeting over the weekend. The meeting wrapped up on Saturday.
About 700 delegates gathered to discuss policy change and gear up for a possible election. The theme of this years AGM was "It starts now" – and the party’s goal was to let voters know exactly who they are as a party. The Wildrose Alliance has rebranded themselves as simply "Wildrose".
Up for discussion were some controversial topics, including health care, which delegates voted in favour of a resolution that hospitals can have private not-for-profit delivery. Rob Anderson, MLA for Airdrie Chestermere, said they "will make sure it’s still a universal public health care system but does it really matter if someone goes to a public clinic or a private clinic or a non-profit clinic to get that health care?"
As for the disbanding the human rights commission? the resoltion was carried easily.
Edmonton MLA John Corie said it’s not about "the human rights act itself, [they’re] still supporting those things, but talking about the commission and what it’s actually achieving"
The party also hopes to break it’s "Calgary centric" image. 10 candidates have already been nominated in Edmonton.
