Yorkton man sentenced for drunk driving causing death

YORKTON, Sask. – A man who tried to cross a flooded-out road north of Yorkton, Sask. in 2010 has been sentenced for drunk driving causing death.

Six charges were laid against James McDougall after two people died when the pickup he was driving was swept away in Whitesand River on July 11, 2010.

Nick Zenkewich, a 73-year-old Yorkton man, was found in the submerged truck. The second victim, an 84-year-old Yorkton man, was found downstream in some debris.

McDougall, 68, was given a two-and-a-half year sentence, a three-year driving ban and a 10-year firearm ban.
