PENTICTON– A fire in a lift station at Apex Mtn. Resort Monday afternoon left some skiers stranded on the disabled lift.
About 10 skiers were trapped 80 feet in the air after an explosion and fire in the control hut of the mountain’s triple lift.
People on the lift tell Global News that they shouted ‘fire’ but there appeared to be no staff in the area.

One man reportedly used his cell phone to call the resort and let them know about the explosion.
Snowmobiles arrived about 15 minutes after the explosion, leaving at one point to collect fire extinguishers.
It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control and that’s when the rescue operation began.
Mountain staff used ropes to get people off of the lift.
No one was injured.
According to the Apex Mtn. website the triple chair will be closed for the rest of the season, which ends this Sunday.
The T-bar and high speed quad will be in operation until then allowing access to more than 80% of the mountain.
Half day and full day lift tickets will be discounted by 25%.
