Enmax records slight drop in electricity use for Earth Hour

Enmax recorded a slight drop in Calgary’s electricity consumption during Earth Hour Saturday night.

This year, City Hall, fire stations and the Bow building participated in the energy saving initiative.

Enmax says there was a drop of 0.5% from the previous hour.  Last year there was no identifiable change in Calgary energy consumption.

Residential needs only accounts for 30% of electricity use in Calgary.  The remaining 70% is used for commercial and industrial purposes.

Enmax says the poor performance is expected, considering only 30% of households are able to participate.

Weather is also a determining factor with temperatures below zero, resulting in increased energy consumption.
