GOOSE BAY, N.L. – A Lufthansa flight bound for Boston has made an emergency landing in Goose Bay, N.L., after a warning light suggested there was fire in the aircraft.

Lufthansa spokesman Martin Riecken says Flight 420 landed safely Friday evening and there were no injuries among the 215 passengers and 12 crew members.

Riecken says a warning indicator flashed in the cockpit of the A340-300 Airbus and the pilot activated an onboard fire extinguisher system.

The aircraft, which took off from Frankfurt, Germany, is being checked over and it’s not clear how long the passengers will have to stay in Goose Bay.

The Goose Bay airport is frequently used as an emergency landing strip for transatlantic flights.
