NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – A Nova Scotia man accused of stealing and damaging a ballot box on federal election day is scheduled to go to trial in December.

Alexander James MacKenzie of Pictou Landing pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of theft under $5,000 and mischief causing damage under $5,000.

He plans to represent himself during trial on Dec. 22.

A ballot box was taken on May 2 from a New Glasgow polling station.
