While most apartment and condo buildings in the Okanagan and elsewhere in BC don’t have balcony sprinklers, new building regulations will now change that.
The new rules require all new wood frame structures be equipped with sprinklers on decks.

There have been 37 fires in the past decade in Kelowna alone where the fire started on the exterior of the building, most of those on the balcony.
However, there are 490 buildings in Kelowna that were built long before the new regulations and don’t have to comply.
