An Okanagan sailor is making the call for able bodied boat crew to sail with a 17th century replica pirate ship that has just been launched on Okanagan Lake.
Doug Mayzes launched the Poplar Point Pirate Ship Monday morning, christening the 50ft vessel “Lady Katharina”, in honour of Mayzes wife who has supported him through out the process.
The galleon features three masts, a raised forecastle and a captain’s quarterdeck above the aft cabin. A glass viewing bottom offers a unique view below the waves.
Mayzes will add the pirate ship to his collection of lake tour boats offering lake excursions from the downtown Kelowna waterfront this summer.
