WINNIPEG – The Canadian Football League and Blue Bombers have announced a joint media conference with the Province of Manitoba and City of Winnipeg Wednesday morning where they will officially announce the 2015 Grey Cup game will be played at Investors Group Field.

Winnipeg has previously hosted the CFL championship three times, the last one in 2006. The 2015 game will be the first Grey Cup played in the Bombers’ new stadium on the University of Manitoba campus.

The Grey Cup is likely not to be the only championship football game to be played that late November weekend in Winnipeg. There is also the possibility the Vanier Cup will be awarded to the U of M. Athletic director Coleen Dufresne told Global Sports in August they would be interested in a joint Vanier Cup-Grey Cup weekend once the Bombers announce their Grey Cup plans.

“I think it would be a phenomenal event for everyone in this city,” said Dufresne.

The CFL and CIS have partnered on joint Grey Cup and Vanier Cup games three times since 2007.

“When the time comes, if we know about a Grey Cup coming here, that’s when we’ll start talking about a combo Vanier Cup-Grey Cup,” said Dufresne.
