The driver of a car that collided with a fuel truck on Highway 103 in Shelburne County Tuesday died overnight.
RCMP identified the woman as 33-year-old Ronna Goreham of Clyde River, N.S.
The Pontiac Sunfire Goreham was driving crossed the centre line of the highway between the Birchtown and Clyde River exits shortly before 2:45 p.m. striking a tanker truck carrying 41,000 litres of fuel.
Emergency crews transported the woman to a Yarmouth Regional Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
According to the woman’s Facebook page, she was the mother of two.
Firefighters from three jurisdictions rushed to the scene to battle flames that ignited when the Goreham’s car smashed into the truck sending it careening into a ditch.
Mounties say the tanker was carrying 32,000 litres of gasoline and 9,000 litres of diesel fuel.
Fire crews managed to create a barrier around the burning truck to limit the spread of spilling fuel, but Department of Environment officials have yet to determine how much gas and diesel may have seeped into the ground.
The 58-year-old driver of the tanker trailer received only minor injuries and was treated on the scene.
The section of Highway 103 between Exits 27 and 28 remained closed into the night, but one lane was open to traffic this morning.
