The snow slide is said to have taken place when a group of heli-skiers were at the base of a slope around 11 A.M. Monday.

A 45-year-old man visiting from Germany was caught up in the avalanche, according to RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky. Fellow skiers dug the man out of 3 meters of snow and attempted CPR, but without success.

RCMP say the avalanche was large enough to destroy mature trees in its path.
