Wayne Gretzky’s son drafted by Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have drafted the son of Wayne Gretzky.

Trevor Gretzky was picked in the seventh round of Major League Baseball’s June draft on Tuesday by the Cubs.

The 18-year-old first baseman out of Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California, was taken 219th overall.

Gretzky has signed a letter of intent to play baseball under Tony Gwynn at San Diego State.

A partially torn labrum limited Gretzky to designated hitter duties as a senior this past season.

MLB.com reported Gretzky worked out for the Cubs and Dodgers on Saturday in Arizona.

Baseball America suggests Gretzky is a work in progress.

"Long-levered and projectable at six-foot-four, 190 pounds, Gretzky has plenty of holes in his swing, and his feel for hitting needs to improve. But he does have power projection and natural hand-eye coordination. He’s a poor runner who has a long way to go defensively at first base, and he’s likely to wind up at San Diego State."

Gretzky’s daughter Paulina took to Twitter to share a video of her dad and brothers reacting to the news:
