SASKATOON – The federal NDP is planning on opening a branch in Saskatoon to assist MPs with constituent outreach and organization, even though the party hasn’t elected an MP in Saskatchewan for over a decade.
On Friday, Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback announced that he would write to the House of Commons speaker Andrew Scheer to investigate the branch opening.

Hoback said House of Commons rules state that the employees of MPs and party leaders’ offices can only undertake parliamentary duties.
As part of his nation-wide palliative care campaign, NDP MP Charlie Angus visited Saskatoon on Saturday and defended his party.
“We follow the rules, the House of Commons understands what we’re doing, and so we make no apologies for the fact that we’re willing to represent the people of Saskatchewan by having people here on the ground,” said Angus.
Angus said the outpost will be for research purposes, not campaigning.
This comes after reports that a dozen staff in NDP offices in Montreal and Quebec City are paid by the House of Commons.
