ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Work will continue this summer to repair the major damage inflicted on Newfoundland by hurricane Igor last fall.
Transport Minister Tom Hedderson says the province is putting out tenders for roads, culverts and bridge structures.
Most of the work will be done in the Trinity North, Bonavista South and Terra Nova regions.
All grading and paving work is scheduled to be completed by the fall.
In addition, bids will be sought for the reinforcement of large culverts, construction of concrete headwalls and welded wire retaining walls, and placement of rock fill and stabilization materials.
Igor reached Newfoundland as a Category 1 hurricane with wind gusts of 140 kilometres an hour and 200 millimetres of rain, causing one fatality and almost $200 million in damage.
