Seized pit bull finds a home; dozens more up for adoption

CALGARY – One of the pit bulls seized from a northeast Calgary residence has already been adopted, but there are still others waiting for new homes.

More than 30 distressed pit bulls were taken by Calgary Humane Society peace officers at the end of April. The majority of the dogs were surrendered to the Calgary Humane Society and seven are up for adoption.

“We’re not putting them all up for adoption at once,” said Desiree Arsenault, Calgary Humane Society manager of marketing and communication. “We’re quite full here and are looking to adopt out other dogs too at the shelter.”

The shelter has around 40 canines, including the pit bulls, looking for new owners. Arsenault added the pit bulls have undergone behaviour tests and have all passed with flying colours.

“They’re very friendly with our staff and well-behaved. There’s myths about these so-called bully breeds, but these dogs are very sweet and have a good disposition,” said Arsenault.

The dogs were said to be suffering from severe dehydration when they were seized from a northeast Calgary home operating as a breeding operation. Charges are still pending.
