The federal government has released the title and theme for its upcoming budget set to be tabled on Nov. 5, which the finance minister’s office says reflects a period of “profound change and uncertainty.”
Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne posted on social media Thursday morning revealing the title “MASTERS OF OUR DESTINY: BUDGET 2026,” with the cover of the budget document, showing power lines suspended over a forested valley landscape.
Champagne’s office also released a statement explaining the significance of the chosen theme and title.

It was inspired by the 1962 Quebec electoral campaign of then-premier Jean Lesage, where the slogan was “Maîtres chez Nous,” loosely translated to “Masters of Our Own House.”
The note from Champagne’s office says the slogan at the time was “a defining expression during a moment of profound change and uncertainty,” as the Lesage government was planning to build up hydroelectric resources and institutions that would support the economy.
“Today, Canada faces a moment of profound change. Trade relationships are redefined. Old alliances are being tested. The forces reshaping the world are challenging our economy, our sovereignty and our sense of who we are,” the note said.
“Through Budget 2026, we reinforce that we are masters of our destiny. That we build our economic strength. That we are there for Canadians. That we defend what makes us Canadians.”
It added: “That is the ambition at the heart of Budget 2026: Maîtres chez nous. Masters of our destiny.”
Ottawa’s latest budget comes as Prime Minister Mark Carney‘s government has been focused for over a year on rewiring Canada’s economy and trade relationships in order to reduce reliance on a more volatile United States.
U.S. tariffs and trade tensions continue to impact Canada’s economy and job market, while geopolitical conflicts lead to rising oil and gas prices and pose a risk that inflation could continue to rise as a result.
Champagne budgets on beer level income. The little man with the huge ego and arrogant attitude spends our money like there is no tomorrow. The sad news is that due to his outrageous spending there WILL BE no tomorrow for many Canadians.
Can’t wait for this one ha ha ha.
What’s the vegas line on how much the deficit will be?? 200 billion? 3? Ukraine needs more money. African nations need billions for climate change, e-bikes but no where to charge them, free everything for illegals and low skillled immigrants… we’re cooked.
Elbozos up
Just support Carney and I will keep you safe.
Well that’s a propaganda title if ever there was one. Why does the Budget needs a title isn’t just calling a Budget good enough but then again how can they con Canadians if they don’t have an elbows up vibe about it. Carney and this Liberal government are a joke
@ RJ many boomers are struggling just like the rest of Canadians not everyone is a Liberal
Sooo??? spend more and more because Europe will absorb all our debt when we become the 28 state of the EU?
Talking about soverignty is like catnip for boomers. They can’t get enough of it.
Many of us are so focused on making ends meet and trying to help those around us do the same, that these games Carney is playing on the world stage seems like nothing more than political theatre.
Communist Gen Z Benny is obviously uneducated
So Carney is going to join Europe so we have more regulation and carbon tariffs? How is that masters of our own destiny
Our pension plans are not your asset, they belong to the Canadian people.
Ben checked into a motel room and told the desk clerk, ” I want my porn channel disabled” heavy set woman looked up glaring and said ” fug you, you freak, you’ll watch the same normal porn as the rest of us”
Welcum to cunada the toilet bowl full of turd
At least we don’t have to hear about trans rights every second sentence on the news.
WOW! The budget has turned into a Dog and Pony show. Bad enough every second commercial on TV is from the Government of Canada telling us how great we are. I thought the Liberals were whining about PP and his slogans? Now the Liberals swamp Canadians daily with some kind of slogan or buzz words. At least we won’t be hearing “Associate Member” anymore.
Yep. Instead of showing the new pipeline, he is showing old power lines. Most of the hydro-electric power has been built. There is less and less rivers to dam. And people are wising up to the environmental damage of flooding valleys, covering parklands with solar cells, or changing the skylines with windmills.
I wonder why he did not show the useless submarines he has committed to buy, or the waffling on the inappropriate F-35 purchase that still has not been cancelled.
Is he highlighting the money being spent on natives? That is where he can actually cut spending. He wants to export energy, yet is still fighting the tanker ban, and any pipelines and new ports to actually export that energy. This is just a re-hash of the old Liberal position of wasting our money on EV’s.
Budget 2026: War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.
Canada is very badly led, and our press coverage is even worse.
Wonder if carney is going to bother to show up this time, his attendance is below 30% now…
100’s of Billions of tax dollars getting flushed, nothing getting done.
Welcome to liberal Canada!
A budget for our troubled times. Fantastic! Go Canada!
