When it approached the intersection at 7th Avenue he lost control, crossed into southbound traffic, hit a curb and travelled across the sidewalk and into a retaining wall at a private dwelling, according to duty inspector Paul Stacey.

“Speed was a factor in this crash,” he said, adding the man was still alive at the scene and transported by EMS, but died upon arrival at hospital.

Northbound and southbound Edmonton Trail between 4th Avenue and 8 Avenue were closed to traffic while police investigated.
