Jon Stewart, Bill O’Reilly debate rapper Common’s invitation to White House

NEW YORK – Bill O’Reilly and Jon Stewart engaged in a “rap war” of sorts on “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday night.

O’Reilly and Stewart will debated the invitation for Grammy Award-winning rapper Common to perform at a White House poetry night last week.

O’Reilly has criticized Common’s presence at Wednesday’s event, saying some of Common’s lyrics celebrate violence.

On the show, Stewart defended Common’s invitation to the White House, comparing the rapper’s lyrics to icon songs by U2 frontman Bono, and Bruce Springsteen, which also contain lyrics about violence.

Common is known for socially and politically conscious rhymes. He was on his best behaviour at the White House. He took the criticism in stride and tweeted, "Fox News doesn’t like me." He added on Facebook, "Peace yall!"

Stewart let loose with an anti-Fox News Channel rap on his show.

The O’Reilly-Stewart faceoff aired Monday night.
