SAINT-JEROME, Que. – The Crown begins its cross-examination Friday of a Quebec doctor who killed his children.
Guy Turcotte has testified that he doesn’t remember stabbing his two young children but he does have horrific flashbacks.
The former cardiologist says can’t fully explain why he killed his five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter in their Montreal-area home.
In tearful testimony, the 39-year-old said he’d resolved to end his own life after his wife left him.
But he says he didn’t want his children to find his body so he decided to take them with him.
Turcotte has admitted to causing the deaths of the children, but has denied intent or premeditation.
The defence says the first-degree murder case focuses on Turcotte’s state of mind and not whether he performed the act.
