BEIRUT – A human rights activist says at least one person has been killed as Syrian security forces opened fire on thousands of protesters.
The shooting took place on Friday in the central city of Homs. The city has seen some of the largest protests during the Syrian uprising, which started two months ago.
Leading human rights activist Mazen Darwish says the victim was shot in the head.
Human rights groups say that between 700 and 850 people have been killed since the start of the revolt against President Bashar Assad’s repressive regime.
