All available firefighters in West Kelowna were called Thursday morning to deal with flooding on Hitchner Road.
Volunteers from West Kelowna Fire Rescue had filled and piled sandbags along that road near McDougall Creek Wednesday night.
However, the creek punched a whole through the berm in the early morning.
Firefighters beefed up the berm during the course of the day.
A heavy snowpack combined with a rainy spring season have the potential to create flooding problems in the valley this season.
The preventative work is being done to protect a local orchard and nearby residential properties.
