TORONTO — One of the stars of Games of Thrones publicly came out in an interview posted online Tuesday.

“I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, cos it’s not something you just blurt out,” said Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor on the hit HBO series.

“I’ve tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail.”

Nairn, 38, added: “I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone, my whole life in fact.”

The Irish actor and DJ was in Toronto last month to promote the new season of Game of Thrones, including an appearance on Global’s The Morning Show.

Nairn told a writer on fansite WinterIsComing.net his sexuality is not an issue.

“I had an upbringing to respect other people’s privacy, and their right to be and choose what they want, and I expect, no, demand no less for myself,” he said. “It’s a very small part of who I am on the whole, but nonetheless, in this day and age, it’s important to stand up and be counted.”

On Twitter, Nairn seemed surprised that his declaration has made headlines around the world.

“If it makes even ONE person in the world feel a little better, then it’s all worth it,” he tweeted.
