The Vancouver Canucks season reached a new low. Again.

Up 3-0 after two periods, Vancouver gave up 7 goals in the third period to the lowly New York Islanders, losing 7-4 and continuing their 2014 collapse.

It was their 11th loss in 13 games, and put a further dent in their remote hopes of making the playoffs.

The Islanders scored four goals in the first 6:22 of the third to take the lead, before Chris Tanev responded at 9:54 to tie the game.

But the Islanders responded just 10 seconds later with a Matt Martin goal to make it 5-4, followed by an Anders Lee goal 101 seconds later. An empty net goal finished off the seven-goal barrage.

The seven goals against in one period tied a record for Vancouver, with both previous instances coming against the Edmonton Oilers in the 1980’s.

The Canucks did have a solid first two periods, with Henrik Sedin scoring his first goal since December 14th, and a Ryan Kesler powerplay goal putting the team up 3-0 halfway through the game.

It’s safe to say nobody will be talking about that tomorrow.

All three of them earned points. Only seven Danish players have suited up in the NHL this season…Monday marked the ninth anniversary of the Aquilini Investment Group’s purchase of the Canucks from former owner John McCaw…Islanders defenceman Thomas Hickey is the only player to suit up for all 67 of their games this season.
