The Manitoba government says the province’s first supervised drug consumption site is set to fully open on Aug. 11.
It says its partners at Aboriginal Health and Wellness are training staff as part of a gradual opening.
The government says the site will be open between Tuesday and Saturday from late morning to early evening to reduce potential harms and connect people to support services.

The site in central Winnipeg has been criticized by some business owners and residents concerned about security and access by minors.
The Opposition Progressive Conservatives have also been against the site, saying the government should focus on treatment.
The government has said a supervised consumption site is needed to address the growing number of overdose deaths in Winnipeg and reduce the number of people openly using drugs.

Sure, let’s just pump millions of tax payers money to let junkies shoot up inside a controlled environment, which these drugs are totally illegal, I wonder if the cops will be there to arrest them as they shoot up?? But the cops are around the corner of these small quickie marts arresting people for buying cheap cigarettes, what a joke this government is already. Nobody has any brains anymore, or BALLS
@Ben….bring “us” back centuries ?
Nah Ben, that’s dumb. but we wouldn’t mind peer reviewed science that showed us how to woketards like you back centuries.
These have failed everywhere. Wab says ‘hold my beer’, tax payers beware.
I guess Wab and his cronies either don’t read research or don’t care. Sites just like this have failed pretty much everywhere they’ve been tried.
Not a good idea!!
Peer reviewed research shows such sites minimizes harm and saves lives. It would seem some commenters want to bring us back centuries where we had debtors prisons. Good grief.
Again, more money spent on a program instead of trying to focus on prevention and rehabilitation. More funds needed for mental health supports for youth and adults. This program will fail, just give it time, and more money and resources, it will fail. Manitoba, what is happening to this province. The next provincial election can’t happen soon enough!
Typical socialist brain rot. The Manitoba communist idiots just think that the BC communist idiots didn’t implement the free access to drug program properly….the Manitoba idiots know they will do it properly this time.
I can’t wait to hear the excuses the Manitoba woketards will make to try to blame the increased addictions and OD death rates on Trump and the Canadian conservatives in 5 years.
Liberalism is the only disease we need to cure.
Mandatory rehab or go ahead and overdose.
Kinew is choosing the easy way, not the smart way to deal with the problem.
Manitoba is going in the wrong direction, you can’t get a junkies off drugs by giving them free drugs! Zero motivation for them to go clean.
Don’t worry, a couple of years down the road the province will realize this was a huge mistake but it’ll be too late to save that neighborhood.
BC tried this and it failed miserably all it does is encourage more use because people feel safe knowing if something goes wrong help is there.
If you just have to have drug dens how about on police, fire or hospital property?
