FREDERICTON – Alexandra Noseworthy has collected over 100 prom and wedding dresses on behalf of her friend Brittany Ryder, who has been living with Multiple Sclerosis for three years.
The dresses will be sold on March 23 at the Delta Hotel in Fredericton, with a portion of the money being raised for MS research.
Noseworthy, a paramedic, has seen the effects the disease can have.
“When they get to the point that they are bedridden, they need help, they need to be transported to the hospital for treatment,” she said. “We see the end stages, when is very frightening.”
“We want a cure, before any of that happens to Brittany.”
In 2010, Ryder woke up without feeling in her leg. Then her arms went numb and paralysis on half of her face. At 21 years old, the young athlete was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
“It is overwhelming. There have been many tears, even at the fundraisers there’s tears, but it’s all happy tears because we know what it’s going for in the end,” she said.
Ryder goes to the hospital every month for treatment. She said the support from her friends has kept her going.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
