Global News has learned that a six-year-old boy who drowned yesterday in Taylor Creek in North Vancouver also survived a near-drowning last March.
Vondrae Martin died Thursday in hospital after he was rescued from the rushing waters of the creek by RCMP.
He was reported missing around 1:45 p.m. from his family’s home on Bowron Court. RCMP and paramedics responded to the scene and began searching the area.
It’s not known how long the child was underwater.
In a strange twist, Vondrae accidentally fell into his grandmother’s pool last March while playing with a basketball. His recovery was profiled by the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
His grandmother, a retired emergency nurse, pulled him from the pool and performed CPR.
He spent a month in intensive care at BC Children’s Hospital, and made a full recovery.
Police say the creek was very swollen and running fast from the recent heavy rains. They are reminding the public to stay clear of all creeks and rivers at this time.
