Six-year-old child dies after getting rescued from a creek in North Vancouver

A six-year-old child who was rescued from Taylor Creek in North Vancouver earlier this afternoon has died.

North Vancouver RCMP responded to a call of a lost child in the Bowron Court area at approximately 1:45 p.m.

Police searched the surrounding wooded area, eventually locating the unresponsive boy.

Officers jumped into the rushing water to pull him out.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the child at the scene. He was airlifted to Children’s Hospital, but has since passed away.

“The witness who was walking her dog located the child in the creek, face down,” says Sgt. Darrin Ramey with North Vancouver RCMP. “Our two members jumped into the creek, pulled the child out and immediately started CPR. The BC Ambulance was, perhaps, one minute behind them and immediately took over the CPR.”

Ramey says they are not sure how long the child was under water, but he was reported missing 30 minutes prior to when the officers found him.

Once the boy was rushed to hospital, police taped off the entire park, searching for any possible evidence, even though they believe the incident is just a horrible accident.

Police say the creek was very swollen and running fast from the recent heavy rains. They are reminding the public to stay clear of all creeks and rivers at this time.

Watch: A dangerous combination of a rain-swollen creek and a curious child has ended in tragedy tonight on Vancouver’s north shore. John Daly reports.
