HALIFAX – Halifax RCMP have arrested a Metro Transit bus driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a female passenger several times while on the job.
The victim, a 35-year-old woman from Cole Harbour, is accusing the 66-year-old male driver of sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions while she was travelling on an Access-a-Bus.
The RCMP said its investigation revealed assaults that allegedly took place over a two-week period.
Sgt. Al Leblanc said investigators don’t believe there are other victims.
The Access-a-Bus system provides door-to-door service for people who are unable to use the conventional public transit system due to physical or cognitive disabilities.
The driver was released and will appear in Dartmouth provincial court on April 16.
He will face charges including seven counts of sexual assault, seven counts of unlawful confinement and seven counts of sexual exploitation of a person with disabilities.
The name of the driver has not been released.
The investigation is ongoing.
