The 2014 Winter Paralympics officially kicked off Friday in a lavish ceremony that included an appearance by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Twitter, Canadian Paralympian gold medallist and ice sledge hockey and basketball player Billy Bridges shared a photo of Team Canada at Sochi:

Despite Russia’s military moves in Crimea, Ukraine will compete in the Games. The country made the announcement shortly before today’s opening ceremony.
