UPDATE: Three care home workers arrested for assault

CALGARY- Police have charged three staff members at a southwest care home with assault after the family of a resident approached them with their concerns.

Police say in early February, the family of a resident at Carewest Garrison Green spoke to them about alleged physical abuse by the facility’s staff.

An investigation involving police and Alberta Health Services resulted in all three staff having their employment terminated.

The three have each been charged with one count of common assault and police say all charges stem from one incident.

They are scheduled to appear in court on April 23.

On Thursday afternoon, Carewest Garrison Green issued a statement saying:

“We encourage residents, clients and their families to bring forward any concerns they may have with respect to their care, or the care of their loved ones, to the attention of management. Any concerns will be appropriately investigated and responded to… Carewest remains committed to providing quality care to our residents and clients in a safe, compassionate and respectful manner.”
