Two killed in crash west of Edmonton

EDMONTON – Two young adults died Monday night after the car they were in slammed into the back of a semi truck on a highway west of Edmonton.

It happened just after 11 p.m. on Highway 16A, just east of Highway 60.

The RCMP says a semi truck was heading west on Highway 16A when it slowed down to turn north onto Range Road 262.

At that time, officers say the truck was rear-ended by a Pontiac Sunfire.

The two people inside the Sunfire – a 20-year-old man from Edmonton and a 19-year-old woman from Spruce Grove – died at the scene.

The driver of the semi truck was not injured.

The names of the victims have not been released.
