Two men attempting to cross the border into Canada illegally last night were captured with the help of Canadian and U.S. Immigration and the Abbotsford Police Department.
APD was alerted about border runners heading north in the area of the 39000 block of Old Yale Road by the U.S. Border Patrol at 8:45 p.m. last night. Officers, a K9 unit, the Air 1 police helicopter and Integrated Road Safety Unit moved into the area and captured the two suspects in a rural area just southeast of Abbotsford.
During their investigation, the U.S. Border Patrol found the two suspects’ backpacks, which were abandoned on the U.S. side. The bags held approximately 20 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine.
The 23-year-old and 49-year-old men will be held by APD for Canadian Immigration officials.
