Sask. bans open fires in Provincial Forest due to extreme fire hazards

It’s not the news anyone wants to hear heading into the May long weekend, but extreme fire hazards has forced the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment to issue an open fire ban in the Provincial Forest.

The ban covers all open fires in or within 4.5 km of the Provincial Forest south of the Churchill River system.

All provincial parks and recreations sites in affected area are also covered by the open fire ban, as well as Clearwater River Provincial Park.

The ministry has also suspended all burning permits in the region and notification numbers will not be issued until the ban has been lifted.

Self-contained heating devices, pressurized stoves or charcoal briquettes used in a ministry approved firebox will be allowed for cooking or heating purposes only for the duration of the ban.

The ban will be in place until further notice.
