A fake dislike button that asks Facebook users to “Enable Dislike Button” has been making the rounds since the weekend and is cropping up consistently.
So for the uninitiated, there is no official Facebook dislike button.
In an online post, Sophos, a company that offers Internet and computer security services, warns Facebook users not to click on the fake dislike button.
“As we’ve explained before, there is no official dislike button provided by Facebook and there isn’t ever likely to be. But it remains something that many Facebook users would like, and so scammers have often used the offer of a “˜Dislike button’ as bait for the unwary,” says Sophos.
Clinking on the fake “Enable Dislike Button” forwards the fake message to a user’s entire friends list and runs malicious JavaScript code on a user’s computer.
With over 500 million registered users, Facebook is increasingly becoming a target for computer hackers.
