Vancouver is getting a new, state-of-the-art Ronald McDonald House to support families who have a child needing to travel to the city for treatment at B.C. Children’s Hospital, Premier Christy Clark announced today.
Clark announced that the provincial government’s contributuion to the $26.75 million project, to be located on the hospital grounds, will be $13.375 million.
The rest is expected to be raised through private fund-raising, according to Chris Olsen, Clark’s press secretary.
The new Ronald McDonald House will be able to accommodate approximately 2,200 families a year and up to 60 families at one time, the provincial government said in a news release.
The existing Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver accommodates approximately 400 families a year and can house up to 13 families at one time.
The fate of the existing Ronald McDonald House will be decided later, Olsen said.
He said it could serve as a home for children recovering from transplant surgery, or it could be sold to help finance the new house.
