OTTAWA — Touted last year as the first U.S. television series ever to be filmed entirely in Israel, Dig is now scheduled to shoot some scenes in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
The six-episode murder mystery, set at an archaeological dig in Jerusalem, will debut on the USA Network later this year.
It stars Jason Isaacs (Awake) as an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalmen who uncovers a 2,000-year-old conspiracy while investigating the death of an archeologist.
Dig comes from Gideon Raff, who adapted the Israeli series Hatufim into the popular drama Homeland, and Tim Kring (Touch).
Global News has learned that after four days of filming in Sault Ste. Marie in late March, the production will move to Jerusalem.
Last year, Israeli media reported Dig would be filmed entirely in that country.
If the show is a ratings winner, USA Network hopes to order a full 13-episode sophomore season.
The network, a division of NBC Universal, produces several shows in Ontario, including Covert Affairs and Suits.
