Vancouver City Council is pushing ahead with a controversial mega-development at Oakridge Centre.

The $1.5 billion proposal has now been given approval to move ahead to the public consultation phase.

The proposal includes a massive expansion of community amenities, such as a park, daycare space, and a seniors centre.

However, some people living in the neighbourhood say they are adamantly opposed to the highrises included as part of the project.

Some of the towers are expected to be 45 stories high. Public hearings are expected to begin in March.
