City of Vancouver backs plan to re-develop Oakridge Centre

A high-density redevelopment of Oakridge Centre is now headed to a public hearing after being backed by city council.

The plan includes a series of towers ranging in height from 30 to 45 storeys as well as a new community centre, seniors’ centre and an 11-acre rooftop green space.

Last night council voted to support the project, saying it falls in line with the metro regional growth strategy, which calls for increased density along major transit routes.

The Green’s Adrianne Carr was the lone councillor opposed to the plan, citing livability and environmental concerns.
