LONGUEUIL – Longueuil Police say 31-year-old Eduard-Stefan Georgescu is linked to the sexual assaults of 11 Quebec women.
They also believe he’s a suspect in 16 other cases.
On Tuesday, Global News learned Longueuil Police contacted detectives in Moncton, New Brunswick about the suspected sexual predator.
“We do know Mr. Georgescu had been in the area of Moncton at some point during the period the crimes were committed,” Cpt. Nancy Colagiacomo told Global News.
“We did communicate with them. They will look into some cold cases maybe that they have, that were not solved.”
Cpt. Colagiacomo added “for now” there are no open cases in the Maritimes that could be connected to Eduard-Stefan Georgescu.
Georgescu worked as a full-time bricklayer. His work often took him to construction sites outside of Quebec.
The St-Amable resident is reportedly married, and the father of an 18-month-old baby girl.
One of his neighbours, Maude Bellemare, can’t believe the news.
“When you see this guy, he’s really a normal guy,” Bellemare told Global News.
“He says ‘hello’ every time you see him.”
Georgescu’s home is located a few steps from a daycare and an elementary school.
The suspected sexual predator was arrested last Friday as he was leaving Montreal’s Bordeaux Prison.
He had just completed serving a jail sentence for an assault on a woman.
Eduard-Stefan Georgescu is currently detained, and returns to the Longueuil Courthouse March 11th.
Longueuil Police believe additional charges will be filed in the case on that day.
