Global News will have extensive live coverage of Quebec’s budget, which will be tabled on Thursday, February 20.

“The Quebec budget is an opportunity to take stock of the state of public finances and on government action to support the economy,” Quebec’s Finance Minister, Nicolas Marceau, said in a statement.

The budget will come down on the same day as the Quebec auditor general’s report on the 2013-2014 fiscal year, which ends at the end of March.

During the fall 2012 election campaign, the Parti Quebecois promised to post a balanced budget by March 2014; but a sluggish economy has led the government to revise that timetable to 2015-16.

The 2014-2015 budget will be the PQ’s second since they came to power in September 2012. The last one, also under Marceau, came in November 2012.

The budget is considered by many political pundits to be another step closer to an election call.
