WINNIPEG – A stately 1930s Wellington Crescent mansion suffered $3-million damage in a fire Sunday, officials estimate.
The damage total is for the structure only and doesn’t include contents of the house designed by Frank Lount and built in 1933 as the home of sportswear manufacturer Fred M. Sures. It also was home to Graham Sifton, owner of the Manitoba Free Press, the forerunner of the Winnipeg Free Press, and the Asper family.

The family that owns the property was out of town when the fire broke out and no one was injured. Family members declined an interview when they returned home Sunday.
