MARKHAM, Ont. – Two men are charged in connection with an allegedly staged home invasion north of Toronto that left a woman dead and her husband badly injured.
York Regional Police say they are still seeking more suspects in the shooting death of Bieh Ha Pan, 53, at her Markham home on Nov. 8.
Her husband, Huei Hann Pan, 57, was also shot but survived what police are calling a "targeted" attack and made his way to a neighbour’s home.
Eric Carty, 31, and David Mylvaganam, 22, are charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Carty was arrested at the Maplehurst Detention Centre in Milton this morning while Mylvaganam was arrested in the Jane and Finch area of Toronto on Thursday.
The couple’s daughter was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder and attempted murder two weeks after her parents were shot. Jennifer Pan was scheduled to appear in court via video for a remand on Friday.
"I think with the daughter involved and the conspiracy aspect to it, I think the motive’s pretty clear," Det.-Sgt. Larry Wilson alleged at a news conference.
He said there was a link between the accused but didn’t give details.
Wilson also wouldn’t say how many suspects police were still seeking, just that it was more than one.
"Our investigation is continuing and we’re expecting more arrests in the very near future," he said.
He urged the suspects to contact a lawyer and turn themselves in.
Initially, police were told three gunmen broke into the home on Helen Avenue and held the family hostage for a half-hour.
Carty was being held at the detention centre after being charged with first-degree murder in the December 2009 slaying of Kirk Matthews, 24, who was gunned down in a parking lot on San Pietroway.
