A Vancouver man is facing a series of charges after an attempted bank robbery in Abbotsford on Wednesday morning.
Jesse Damond Morton has been charged with seven charges that include attempted robbery, break and enter, uttering threats, and several weapons-related offences.
Police were called to the scene of a robbery at a bank in the 2200 block of Whatcom Road in Abbotsford after staff reported a man had smashed out a window with a sledgehammer to gain access to the un-opened bank and demanded cash from the staff.

Abbotsford’s police, emergency response team, and bike squad went to the area where two officers saw a man walking away from the bank. The 37-year-old was stopped and arrested without incident.
When police searched Morton’s backpack they found he was heavily armed with a loaded handgun and semi-automatic assault rifle.
“This was brazen, it was well planned,” Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian McDonald said.
Due to the uniqueness of this attempted robbery, McDonald said they have not ruled out the possibility of this being linked to other incidents in the Lower Mainland and will be investigating.
