Canada’s Howell wins gold, Lamarre bronze in slopestyle skiing

TORONTO – Canada’s Dara Howell and Kim Lamarre made history Tuesday after capturing gold and bronze  in the Olympic debut of women’s ski slopestyle.

The Huntsville, Ont. skier captured Canada’s fourth gold medal in Sochi with a best score of 94.20.

Quebec City’s Lamarre won bronze with an 85.00 score on her second run.

However, there was a scary moment for B.C. native Yuki Tsubota, who crashed hard on her second run. She was taken off the course in a stretcher.

Tsubota posted a score of 71.60 in her first run, finishing sixth overall.

Canada’s medal favourite and world champion Kaya Turski had her Olympic dreams cut short after crashing out in both qualifying runs in the Olympic debut of women’s ski slopestyle.

Turski finished 19th in the 22-women qualifying field.
