Kamloops man seriously injured after being struck by out-of-control vehicle

A Kamloops man has been taken to hospital after he was struck on the side of Highway 1 Monday afternoon.

Police say the 31-year-old man lost control of his car and slid into the ditch alongside the highway. He was able to get his car out of the ditch and onto the shoulder of the road. When he was outside of his vehicle, retrieving some clothing, he was struck by another westbound vehicle which had also lost control.

The driver of the second vehicle was a 44-year-old woman from Surrey. She was not injured, but the Kamloops man had to be taken by air ambulance to hospital with “serious lower body injuries.”

Police think weather and road conditions are to blame, but they haven’t yet ruled out speed, mechanics and driver error.
