Alberta Liberals release AHS performance report

Alberta Liberal Leader Raj Sherman reveals AHS' first quarterly report Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. Global News

EDMONTON – The Alberta Liberal Party has released Alberta Health Services’ performance report, which it received through a Freedom of Information request.

Liberal Leader Raj Sherman says the first quarterly report — which was initially due for release on Sept. 1, 2013 — “contains a long list of failures” and confirms suspicions as to why the Redford government wanted to keep it a secret.

“ER wait times are through the roof, access to timely surgeries is getting worse and all because the PCs won’t address the damage caused by their failed policies and constant political interference,” said Sherman.

According to the report, a couple of the areas where AHS is failing to meet its targets include admitting patients from emergency within eight hours and heart bypass surgery wait times.

“These figures are embarrassing. They’re embarrassing to the government. But they’re highlighting why people are waiting so long for surgeries, why the emergencies are still packed, why people are still waiting for a 911 call,” Sherman said. “Albertans pay billions for their health care system and they deserve to know how it is really performing.”
