Edmonton – The Alberta government will build three new schools in Edmonton, and expand on another.
The new schools will be built in areas of the city that are experiencing considerable growth.
- A new Edmonton Catholic Separate School District Kindergarten to Grade 9 school will be built in Summerside, which will have an expected capacity of 750 students
- A new Edmonton Public School District Kindergarten to Grade 9 school in Windermere, which is expected to house as many as 900 students
- A new Edmonton Public junior high school in Lewis Farms, which will have a maximum capacity of 900 students
- Lillian Osborne High School in southwest Edmonton will be expanded to fit an additional 600 students

“We are putting students first by making smart and strategic investments in their education. These new schools will help ensure that every student can reach their full potential,” said Minister of Education Jeff Johnson.
The province also announced plans to fund ten new schools in Calgary, and the modernization for the Calgary Arts Academy which it says is the 70th and final modernization project under Premier Redford’s commitment to build 50 new schools and modernize 70 others across the province.
“Last spring, I committed to building 50 schools and modernizing 70 others and that is exactly what we are doing. Before the month is over, all of those projects will be underway,” said Premier Alison Redford.
