Flooding closes stretch of 50th Street in Edmonton until weekend

An almost 20-block span of 50th Street will be closed to Edmonton traffic until at least Sunday because of extensive flooding, the city said Thursday.

Frozen culverts in the area have hindered drainage of the melting snow, said city spokeswoman Laura McNabb. As well, some asphalt on the road has become loose, she added.

As a result, crews have closed 50th Street, between 167th Avenue and 195th Avenue for repair work.

Motorists are advised to use Manning Drive or 66th Street to avoid major delays.
