Comrags brings subtle, demure touches, colourful patterns to classics

TORONTO – Comrags proved a little goes a long way with classic garments featuring more delicate and demure touches at Toronto’s LG Fashion Week on Wednesday.

Designers Judy Cornish and Joyce Gunhouse delivered the usual mix of pared down yet elegant separates, including dresses and outerwear boasting clean lines. But they diversified the garments with subtlety, such as soft pleating adorning necklines on dresses and neckties fashioned on satiny blouses.

Separates were stylish yet modest, with elbow-length sleeves and both scoop and boatneck style, slender-fit skirts and high-waisted pants. Outerwear encompassed anoraks, trenches and overcoats.

There were occasional infusions of bolder colours like marigold yellow and aqua saturating pretty, multi-hued patterns that at times were reminiscent of watercolour paintings. The designers also played with proportions most visibly with the range of patterns, melding large-scale florals and other prints in contrasting colours and sizes.
