Accused Edmonton attacker appears in court

Edmonton – A 36-year-old man made his his first court appearance Wednesday in connection with the attacks of two women in the Garneau neighbourhood.

The attacks happened on January 20, near 110 Street and 88 Avenue, where a woman was allegedly knocked to the ground and then groped before the suspect fled.

Police were called to the area and a short time later a plain clothes officer saw another woman being attacked near University Avenue.

On Wednesday, Daniel Leonard’s bail hearing was set for February 18.

Leonard will remain in custody until the bail hearing.

He’s facing two counts each of sexual assault and breach of probation.

Police are investigating whether Leonard has been involved in other recent incidents in Edmonton.
